I started Gilenya after it was first approved. I tried all the injectable treatments and I hated them. I was having bad flare-ups 2-3 times a year (had to have steroid IV infusions). With Gilenya, I haven't had any bad flare-ups. For me, it pretty much was a no brainer to switch to an oral medication that has no side affects and controls my symptom's way better than the others. I also started on a Gluten-Free Diet a year ago with amazing results. Some of my disabilities that drugs didn't help and I thought were permanent are gone or lessened. I strongly recommend Gilenya, and trying a Gluten-Free Diet.
I started Gilenya in February and it was my first line of treatment. I haven't had any issues at all. No side effects and have been feeling great.
‡Studies showed that GILENYA reduced the frequency of relapses by 52% in a 1-year study vs Avonex®, and by 54% in a 2-year study vs placebo. At the 1-year mark in a clinical trial, 83% of people on GILENYA were relapse-free. Of those people taking Avonex instead, 70% were relapse-free at year's end. In a separate study, 70% of the people on GILENYA were relapse-free for the entire 2 years. For the people taking placebo during that time, 46% of them stayed relapse-free.
I've been on Gilenya for over a year. My MS has gone from relapsing to secondary progressive. Over the 30 years that I have had this disease I have been oncopazone, avonex and tysabri before gilenya. Tysabri was the best, but I had to go off it because I,am JC virus positive. I,don't think the gilenya has helped at all, sadly. Of,course gilenya (and all the other drugs) is for relapsing. There is nothing for progressive. If anyone is on a drug for, progressive please tell me!
