I would like to know the foods I should avoid. I hate pizza last night, veggie pizza and woke up feeling really weak. When I was without medicine for a long period of time I was eating baked fish with vegetables and I was doing pretty good. What are some foods that has weakend you and has strengthened you? Please help!

Try a strict elimination diet. Eliminate everything that might be a problem for one month. See if you feel better. Then add items back into your diet one at a time to see which has a bad effect. Then you know what to avoid.

@A MyMSTeam Member what specific trouble do you have? Ummm lemme me see. The thing is I never ate eggs until my trainer recommended them so I didn't grow up eating eggs. I used to hate them. The trouble started with my hand and forearm about two yrs before I was diagnosed with MS and started one yr before I started eating eggs. It was so bad it was hard to drive or write. I used to wear a heavy duty weightlifting glove to drive and had occupational therapy by a therapist specializing in hands. The hand surgeon was flabbergasted and stumped. So my chiropractor, a health nut like me, was watching PBS and saw JJ Virgin talking about her elimination diet. Check her out at jjvirgin.com she says that people with autoimmune disorders and people as they creep into their 40s become sensitive to certain foods. She suggests that you eliminate peanuts, corn, dairy, gluten, soy, sugar and sugar substitutes, and eggs for 21 days. Then you add them back one food at a time. My chiropractor for thought I should try the diet cause he said hey no one knows what causes MS and his hand swelling and forearm pain could be related to something you are eating and this may be an MS symptom. My heart sank cause I had come to love my egg white omelet that my trainer had recommended for a low calorie protein rich breakfast. Well that was January 2013. My hand pain and forearm pain disappeared after three years of off and on again symptoms and my belly went back to a normal flat belly like it used to be. I also can't eat pasta cause it blows up my belly too. I learned from my mother n law that pasta has eggs in it. So now I only eat pasta like three times a year. I love pasta but it doesn't love me. Lol

I think this is going to be such an individual thing. I agree with trying an elimination diet so you can isolate your own triggers. Sorry you are dealing with this but best of luck!

The author of the JJ Virgin diet I wrote about did labwork on her clients and they IgGE level decreased after they eliminated the foods that they were sensitive to . They also lost weight. She recommends her diet for people who have been trying to lose weight for 10 or 20 yrs without good results. I did not go on it to lose weight though but I lost five pounds cause eggs do not agree with me at all! I didn't even add them back after the 21 days without them. I understood totally why when I was in the hospital when I was diagnosed with MS for five days why I lost three pounds even though I wasn't active. My stomach also went flat. I had been complaining about my puffy stomach for months. I was so upset cause I've never had a belly and I looked like I was four months pregnant. I had no access to my egg whites so I lost weight. Once I was out of the hospital the bloating returned. And so did the arm pain and hand pain and swelling.

@A MyMSTeam Member I have had trouble with eggs in the last 2 years. Did you have the problem with eggs before MS? The problem started when I was buying them from the farm markets. We have a lot of them where we live.
@A MyMSTeam Member people are saying the Paleo diet is a good one. It doesn't include beans & grains. I have noticed beans make me feel more inflamed.
