My experience is that it doesn't really make a lot of difference either way. I didn't have to wait for the specialist too long once my GP found out what we are dealing with. But boy, was I disappointed to find out that they mainly just take notes and record how you are feeling. This is because they may need you to participate in one of their trial projects if your profile fits. Then I get something like this: well, it is MS. Everyone is different and we don't know a lot about it. If it gets worse let us know (so we can write it down:)).
And what? No help, no relief. If anything they get me more frustrated. I don't even want to go anymore. I read and do my own research and then I discus it with my GP for action.
My neighbor has been an MS patient for over 2 decades. She moved to Ottawa for better care just to be disappointed same as I was.
Hang in there and don't waist time waiting. Listen to your heart as to what you can and can't do and make the best of every day. Appointments will come and go many times over.
Hello Companions on this 'Fast? Steady? Moving Train, that has no Brakes!" Need to 'air' some unjust?/ridiculous?/degrading?/ behavior of these 'Physicians', 'Doctors', 'Neurologists'...I will say my Primary Phy. is the tops she makes things happen. After sending me to a Neurologist for various 'symptoms' (over several yrs.) no one was suspicious, no hint of what might be going on w/my body. Eventually (09-2012) the same neurologist said 'don't like what I see let's do several MRIs and then was told to have spinal tap. That concluded the 'Mystery Maze', 'Marco Polo search & maybe find'...he says it is ppms..he sent me to a MS Neuro. Specialist. Now this is a Center of Specialist of MS. The first Doc. comes into small cubical sneezing/wiping her nose; Can not remember a thing of that 1st. Specialist Meeting, other than how inconsiderate!! I call and cancel w/ that Doc and request another Doc. This Doc proves to be in the wrong profession or totally Bored w/MS patients or anxiously waiting for retirement. He says we are not putting a name on this other than just treating MS.
I'm going down hill, eventually He recommends a change of medicine, takes the blood to chk on certain elements,(was told I'd be called when results came in)3 wks later I call was told by nurse all was on schedule; she'd call & let me know when...never heard. Called left messages no response. Chk w/ another Center to set up appt. w/new Doc. Requested certain records, I requested at prior center, did the Prior Center respond? NO. New Center said no records received PERIOD. (this went on even after many a ph call to both centers!) PRIMARY listened to me, contacted 1st center and requested entire records, 45 minutes later I have them in hand & I send to New Center at same number given to Prior Center (Are you thinkg wht I'm thinking?) New center responds 'Got the records'. Wanted to do therapy at new Center, finally Prior center acknowledges, days before Xmas.
NOW STILL Waiting for New Center to line up New Doc.
Where is a MS Specialist that has MS? They'd know the unfamiliar paths that all travel & be more inclined to BE ON TOP of Patient/Doctor relationships? Involvement?
Directions? CARE?
Oh Dear as I attempt to type w/two hands I have more erasing to do than writing...for one hand isn't paying attention!
There must be some reason why I am having difficulty in locating My Doctor!
what is a bit?I have been waiting for over one year to go to a MS clinic to see what kind of mS I have and still don,t know
When you are diagnosed they monitor your symptoms for a bit and see how you do.
