How has your families' and friends' perception of you changed since your diagnosis of MS?
As my symptoms become worse, I've become the "invisible" family member. Instructions or requests concerning household issues are not heard or heeded. My family will discuss my needs and plans for my future care while I'm in the room like I'm not there. and never asking for my input. Both family and friends discount anything I say, and never seem to really hear me. I feel isolated and alone.
They see me as being weak and treating me like a child who depends on them. The thing I am seeing the most is they think they know what is best for me. Nobody knows what is best especially since they do not understand what it is like
@A MyMSTeam Member I'm sorry but your right life isn't easy π
Beth, if it makes you feel any better I am on the opposite end of the spectrum with my husband and this end truly sucks as well. He acts as if my MS doesn't exist and downgrades me for not being able to handle what I could when we met :/ I'm on b12 injections and adderal to help the fatigue but still feel like every day is a battle. And that makes him so ill. His view is that if I were "really sick" then the neurologists would be able to "fix it." I have heart disease and seizures along with the MS and those meds make the fatigue so much worse. He's had doctors come out and tell him that my life was at risk in multiple situations and that stress had to be eliminated because it escalates all of the symptoms but it's like he doesn't believe any of it, or just doesn't care. There was a day not too long ago that I had three seizures, nearly back to back, and not an hour after the last he asked what I was planning to do about dinner :/ It sounds as if if we could combine them, we would have the perfect scenario! Haha. Too bad life never makes things that easy :p
My husband treats me like I am breakable I try to tell him I can do it myself and I will ask if I need help but he doesn't buy it
As for a few if my friends I think it may make them uncomfortable cause I don't talk to them as much
As for my son he will tell people he doesn't mind but he does mind that I can't play outside with him like I used to be able to
