What exactly is Wahl's Protocol? I suppose I could google it but I haven't heard of it except on this site. I'd like to hear experiences with it good, bad or indifferent. Please share. Thanks.

I often don't retain alot of specifics of what I read and have to read something often so if I get any of the info from the book wrong I apologize ahead of time. Dr Wahls Protocol has 3 levels that differ from each other. Totally cut out added sugar, processed foods, dairy and grains refined or not (she also excluded eggs but admitted it was because she was sensitive to them). I have done the sugar and the processed foods but I have not totally done grains, I just was not sure of this part, so I am allowing myself whole grains (I like my morning cereal but now I do 1/3 cup good whole grain cereal, 1/3 cup nuts, 1/3 cup seeds such as pepitas. Seeds and nuts are part of the protocol and I have only coffee creamer for dairy and I do allow myself eggs. I allow myself one cheat a week some goody that may contain something from the 'no' list. The protocol diet is huge on greens and meat and she does explain the whys of what she suggests. I have increased my vegetable intake hugely, alot of greens which is easy this time of year, I have changed my meat to grass fed, cage free, natural, local if possible.
Now all this is expensive but I do the best I can on my disability check.
* Watch youtube...Debunking the Paleo Diet:Christina Warinner at TedxOU..... made alot of sense to me. And also watch Dr Wahls on the TedX series on youtube* and you will take away what makes sense to you.
Results: well I have been actively following this path for about 5 weeks and what I have noticed so far is that my 'brain fog' has greatly decreased, I feel much more optimistic and wanting to be pro-active , so I guess depression was an issue before but has improved now. I have huge balance issues and they have improved somewhat but have far to go. I have been heavy all my life but am losing weight slowly now. I am also taking Copaxone at this time, I am not willing to totally go off of DMD's.
So there it is for me right now, watch those youtube episodes I mentioned and take away from it what you will.
I am a little cynical and thought to myself well Dr Wahls does have something to gain from this besides health......income from the sale of her books, probably totally not a fair assumption but I am being honest. If you want to discuss this any further you know how to fond me :)

I borrowed the Wahls Protocol book from a library. It is an interesting book with a " whole person " approach. I drink more green smoothies with flax seed now. She suggests 9 cups of veggies and fruits everyday with a higher concentration of sulfur rich veggies. She also recommends seaweed, organ meats, dairy and grain free eating. I cut down greatly on processed foods and try to eat as clean as possible. I can bring myself to eat organ meats. She proposes organ meats because they are a good source of Coenzyme 10, which nourishes mitochondria (energy units in our cells) . She also promotes e- stim.

I forget all of the points in her book. Even though I don't follow her Protocol, I did enjoy reading her book and have implemented what I could follow into my lifestyle. Hope this helps.

I have been doing the first step in the Wahls diet. No dairy or gluten lots of fruit and veggies. I am feeling better less brain fog better attitude. I have also lost 10 pounds in a month. I agree Dr. Wahls is making money on her book but it is less then $20 and she went from being in a wheelchair to walking again. My main goal is to keep moving and free from wheelchairs. Good luck!!

I bought her book and her diet is roughly based on Paleo. I have taken on a lot of the principles but do not adhere to it exactly, I am still doing some investigation. If you want to hear more let me just ask and I can tell you my experience

Dr.Terry Wahl has MS. She was wheelchair bound. She began to study MS on a cellular level through diet and has come up with a complete diet to help heal your body from the cellular level up. Focusing on the health of the mitochondria. She has been granted many grants from the gov. And has just published a cookbook. Find her on youtube.com Tedtalks very interesting!! My hero!!
