Opens with Dr. Wahl and the Wahl's Protocol
@A MyMSTeam Member - one size definitely does NOT fit all. I take Tecfidera and only recently found out I have a side-effect that is serious for quality of life but not listed on the drug info. :-)
My integrative medicine DR at Stanford teaches a great class about food as medicine. She has MS too which has been very helpful to me since she truly understands my challenges, and she successfully manages her symptoms through her diet. She specifically recommends the MITO food plan for us. I've been doing it for about 4 months now - not always as diligently as I should since my partner doesn't like just piles of veggies on his plate night after night LOL, but I will say most of my symptoms have shown improvement, so my partner and I have just committed to following it more strictly. Here's the link if you want to learn more about it - it's similar to Wahls with more focus on mitochondria health. https://drmariamaricich.com/clients/959/documen...
Dr. Terry Wahls has an interesting discussion about her dietary path in an article: http://www.phoenixhelix.com/2015/06/06/episode-...
One particular element in her protocol is her oil choice (coconut oil), that is 92% saturated fat with potential to raise LDL levels tremendously. There's an article on Coconut oil that might be helpful: https://www.pritikin.com/your-health/healthy-li...
I have experienced weight gain with coconut water and oil. Research is always mandatory when selecting dietary and MS therapy choices.
I would love to hear responses especially from those that deal with spasticity
@A MyMSTeam Member - Thanks for sharing! I see Dr. Dunne at Stanford. This looks more doable to me than Wahls. No dairy and no grain ... plus organ meat. Yikes that's hard. We belong to a CSA in Pescadero, so we eat a largely organic plant based diet anyway. I do think food is healthcare, pills are sick care ... so I like trying to eat as clean as possible. :-)
