How do you handle stress? I find that if I am upset either a person or situation my arms and legs begin to feel like spaghetti, I feel weak and uncoordinated and sometimes "blow my stack" because I can't concentrate or control my emotions.

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that stress intensifies MS symptoms, with many describing how emotional or physical stress triggers increased fatigue, muscle weakness, numbness, balance issues, vision problems, cognitive fog, and even full-blown relapses requiring steroid treatments. Several members shared practical coping strategies, including yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, walking or light exercise in cooler temperatures, prayer and faith practices, anti-anxiety medications like Xanax or antidepressants, service dogs, and carefully avoiding or limiting exposure to stressful situations and people. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy and prioritizing self-care, with many emphasizing the need to recognize personal stress triggers, remove unnecessary stressors from their lives, and give themselves permission to rest, step away, or say no without guilt in order to protect their health.

I find walking not only helps me relax but in a funny way, exercising gives me more energy. I have to keep reminding myself that I can't wait until I feel better to exercise. I won't feel better until I exercise!!!!

When I was first diagnosed and warned about stress I thought my provider had to be kidding. Who doesn't have stress? But, guess what?! You have to make it a priority to recognize it or better yet know what triggers it and how to avoid it. I agree with CoolLioness--regular walks are a good way to deal with stress or at least get your mind off things.
