I'm curious to know if anyone else has Misophonia - the hatred of sound? Also called 4S (Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome). It's not a condition that will be diagnosed as such - I don't think - but I wonder if it is linked somehow to MS? I have VERY sensitive hearing and there are certain trigger sounds that can send me into a blind rage. I have learned to control the intense angry outbursts that I used to have but I still feel them as major stress factor and have to walk away. I've had… read more

I actually "see" loud sounds. It is weird to explain, but it seems that everything in my site has different colors surrounding it

I have had severe reactions to many sounds. Especially if it comes from my mom (crunching chips, slurping, kissing someone). Rage in my heart. I am 31 and have been diagnosed with MS for 10 years. I've experienced misophonia since my teen years. It has crept into all of my relationships. I have to have music on or a movie while eating every meal. Meditation has helped and smoking weed has helped. Recognizing how I'm feeling. Letting my partner know that I am having issues and what they are doing isn't bad or wrong. Compassion for yourself and from others is a big one. Keeping communication open. I can't use ear plugs because the wooshing sound is triggering.

My sister who does not have MS experiences misophonia and so does my mom.
I'm not exactly sure what the connection is with MS and the frontal lobe and misophonia but it is very validating to read that other people feel the way that I do. I don't feel so alone.

Peace!

INTERESTING, CoolLioness! Thanks for sharing. I believe YOUR enigma may happen because intelligence. You DO realize that you get "special perks" with a high IQ? Seriously, I have read about this quite a bit, and it is a common theme (the various "extra" things that smart minds have. I.E. artistic endeavors usually seen in intelligent peeps)

@A MyMSTeam Member Oh man, I get you with words. It's almost as bad as the noises! It's the reaction you have, isn't it? It really is so irrational and extreme. I have managed to kind of calm myself when I'm faced with 'a noise' but I still feel utter fury towards whoever is making the noise. I don't know what's worse - flying off the handle or keeping it to yourself and letting it fester. It really sucks.
