I went to a doctor a while back who was part of a program that does DNA testing that can actually take a swab from your mouth and test your DNS they have you fill out a list of meds you are on and ones you have taken in the past. You get a response back in the mail, you go back to see the dr and they let you know what works and doesn't work with you. I was lucky Medicare paid for the test. It cost like $1500. The down side I found out later was only my pharmacist and one dorctor knew about this company.But the test results helped me out a lot. I ended up buying the computer program for myslef. Everytime I start a new med I type it in to see if my body chemistry is compatible. If you want to know more info about it contact me private on here I'll give you the info. Sorry my cynicism comes out, but I think this is why it's called a medical "practice". They don't know! I went through this merry-go-round for both my blood pressure meds as well as my anti-depressants. It's no fun but all I can offer is my empathy. 😟

It doesn't to start with. When you do the DNA swab you fill out a medication history. They verify what works with your DNA. Then in the future when you may want to change med you can type it in and it will say if it will be Agee able with your dna. What they don't tell you is you have to spend $30 a year for their program on your computer if you want access. They give you a ID card with a master code of your DNA that your pharmacist will understand. But most dr's don't. My neuro did and my new internist did but my old PC dr didnt. The test some insurance companies and medicare covers with having ms I was approved. It's helped with my med allergies but they didn't have my Tecfidera in system until 6 months after I was on it. When I checked Tysabri for me I seen Tecfidera was terrible for me. I was like no kidding.

when you have the swab test done you send them a list of medication you are on. It tells you what of those meds works well with you DNA what doesnt. According to your body makeup.then they give you a card that has your DNA make up on it. If your dr has their system or one similar they can put those numbers in your chart. When perspiring you medications the concept is that when they type new med in it would tell dr if the med would agree with your system. Some dr just aren't with the system yet. A lot of pharmacies have been using these computer programs for years, not with DNA but with your personal health history of what you tell them. I showed my card to my pharmacist he scanned it and said perfect now if you get a script that doesn't agree with your DNA it will be flagged I'll call your dr and tell him what would be better for you because it will give suggestions.
