Anyone Else For Having Severe Pain With Spasticity?

A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭
Springville, UT

Hi, I am having so much pain with tightness and spasticity in the back of my thighs. I am up to 60 mg of baclofen a day (80 mg being the most you can take), and I don't know if it makes much of a difference. I LIVE on a heating pad and don't know what else to do. Is anyone else dealing with this or does anyone know about the baclofen pump?

Have you tried cold packs instead of heat packs? I have problems with spasticity, spasms, and stabbing pains in my ribcage and side. I wish they made body suits out of ice packs, because they work on me like a charm. It took me discovering that when I got hot is when these particular symptoms pop up. When I used an ice pack for the first time, I could have cried because I finally found something that took the pain away! Not saying it will work for you-but it is worth a shot. Of course, it doesn't help with everything-but it helps with most for me.

I had a friend who had a Baclofen pump for his adult onset muscular dystrophy. His muscles cramped so hard that his legs would get locked with a 90° angle at his knees. Walking was extremely painful - but then so was doing nothing. When they implanted the Baclofen pump and it gave continuous meds, his whole life changed - for the better. There were never any issues with the pump.

Oh yes. After a few weeks it has finally subsided, but I have also noticed that I get cramps in my hands or legs and or feet when I stretch. I swear my body does all kinds of things.

I suffer severe pain more from the damage severe spacicity has caused. I after avoided pain management for years I now go. I get Ativan and a narcotic for the pain. I have tried everything short of surgery to repair the damaged tendons. PT helped me tremendously but my insurance company stopped paying for it.

I have so much lower back pain all the time I live on the heating pad. I can't walk very far, standing is an issue. The pain is constant. On medication but nothing touches the pain. I don't know what to do?
