Does anyone deal with pain due to spasticity?
If so, what do you do to help with it?

I deal with it. Nothing that my neuro has prescribed has ever worked for me. But, I live in Arizona so I applied for a medical marijuana license and got the high- CBC drops. These drops don't make you high or giggly, etc. but 5 minutes after taking 10 drops, the pain is gone and spasms gone. I shared the info with my MS group. I was nervous at first as I didn't want them to think I'm a pothead. But, they do not care. It is WONDERFUL to see them now at meetings with no pain and stress on their faces! (usually takes me about 2 doses/day). Hemp oil drops work also but not nearly as well. Neuros don't recommend bc of their medical licrnse tisks since the fedetal government still has archaic laws regarding marijuana.
Stretching exercises work well. Physical Therapy can help you focus on stretching what you need to stretch. Then, I take the exercises home. I keep a file so if I find something flaring up, I look to see what has worked in the past for that area. Always works for me!
Jason,
You mentioned on another post & comment that this is a rough part of year for you.
An important part of managing spasticity is keeping control of the things that trigger it.
COLD & CONSTIPATION are the two biggies that make muscles knot up.
Keep your Extremities WARM !!!
• WARM — Arms & Hands & Fingers
• WARM — Legs & Feet & Toes
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
This will prevent the muscles' fibers from shrinking & shortening & stiffening.
Think of silly putty cold ot warm —
… take it out of the refrigerator and try to stretch it. It's hard & stiff and cracks if you bend it.
… put it on the window sill in the sunlight to warm it up and it's supple, stretches easily, it's soft and bends easily.
The tricky part is BALANCING it so the Extremities Stay Warm but the Core Temperature doesn't overheat.
• Gloves
• Thick Socks
• Layering that can easily open.
— Zippered Sleeves & Legs like Basketball Warm–Up Pants are great.

A Bowel & Bladder Program to make sure to "KEEP THE FLOW MOVING"
Keeping the Bladder EMPTY and from turning into a Big Tight Water Balloon keeps the lower bowel from getting compressed.
Keeping the amount of FIBER HIGH and staying HYDRATED keeps crap from building up in that small space inside the pelvis.
Smaller volumes in the Bowel & Bladder keeps the nerves & tissues around the lower spine free of being compressed, squeezed & irritated.
It's a BALANCE of keeping Hydrated enough while NOT overloading the kidneys & bladder. If there's not enough water, poop dries, gets thick & hard, builds up & binds up.
Too much volume of STUFF in the small area of the Lower Pelvis compresses nerves & tissues that trigger Spasticity.
Hi @A MyMSTeam Member I used to use Baclofen but, found it becoming ineffective so decided to use options my current is called Zyflamend it's a herbal combo supplement or Turmeric with bioperine (black pepper) thermogenics seem to work for me, reducing stress that promotes spasms helps also. Listening to a lil ' sexy jazz takes the edge off of world issues 2. You have adjust your dosage according to efficacy for you, you should always discuss this with your physician for safety when making changes in Rx levels.
@jtx … Jason,
This has really turned into a very good conversation thread.
As @SaunteringMuse notes, it's really interesting to read all the different perspectives everyone is sharing and I like the focus it's taken on each to do a "self-awareness-inventory" of WHEN ... WHERE... and . h o p e f u l l y . come to a better knowledge & understanding of W H Y (??!!??)
I've really learned quite a lot more about my own difficulty just through thinking more closely about these things as I've been reading the notes.
THANK YOU Jason for letting us try to help you.
(humbly grateful)
