Blurred peripheral vision was the first symptom that forced me to seek medical attention. It started as a clouding over on my lower peripheral vision with some tearing. I too thought that I had something in my eye but went to the doctor when it didn't clear up. I strongly recommend calling your neurologist for a referral. Not all eye doctors are familiar with MS but most neurologists are in contact with eye doctors. It's typically part of the testing process so they know which ones are knowledgeable.

I get blurry occasionally. It's just one of the symptoms of MS. I've always had vision problems. I see an eye doctor every yr. & my vision gets worse cuz' of the MS. I would mention it to your MS doctor, & it would be helpful to see an eye doctor. Most know about MS & how it effects vision.

I had double vision at first and then it cleared up. hopefully yours will clear up, too.

MeredithJ,- With blurry vision, you might want to check with your ophthalmologist as well as your neurologist. I've had 5 episodes of MS-related blurriness (all optic neuritis), but the 6th episode had nothing to do with MS: it was RETINITIS.
A friend of mine yelled at me (as I was tripping & falling), "GO TO YOUR EYE DOCTOR!"). I went & the diagnosis was made.
I guess my 6th eye problem had nothing to do with MS.
Good luck; I hope you & your doctor(s) can find out what's causing this & can find out how to correct it.

I had optic neuritis 5 times - from 1991 to 1999 (started Avonex 1/1999 - haven't had optic neuritis since).
In 2003 I had very blurry vision; I thought it was optic neuritis -- turned out to be torn retina & cataract. After 3 out-patient surgeries (starting 7/3/2003), I no longer have peripheral vision on right side, and what vision I do have in right eye is blurry (but I do see light). Left eye is good; ONE EYE is BETTER than NONE!
