I read that people who have shingles are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with MS within a year. I guess that makes sense for me since I've had shingles twice in the last 18 months. Wondering if anyone else has had shingles also?

I had a severe staph infection in my face when I was 19. About 6 months afterwards I went to the emergency room because I kept forgetting where I was and what I was doing. However, all tests came back normal. That eventually stopped after a couple weeks. I started getting pain in my face 6 years later on the same side as I had the staph infection. I left a couple dentists very bewildered at what was going on. X rays showed nothing but I was in such severe pain. My dentist decided to do a root canal. The day after my root canal, that is when all my MS symptoms started. I remember feeling so fatigued that I actually called my dentist office asking them if it was normal for someone to feel extremely tired up to a week after a root canal. They said no, of course. A month later, I was diagnosed. I just remembered I had that Staph infection a few months ago, and I really think that the Staph infection could possibly be the catalyst in what caused the MS. That coupled with a vitamin D deficiency, being of Northern European descent, and stress. I have a theory that if your immune system had to fight something hardcore in the past, it may have something to do with MS. Who knows!? Maybe we are on to something...

First Mono, now Shingles. Interesting. I got Shingles 2 weeks after I had my son; gave my baby chickenpox!

This is because it is the same virus that causes both. Shingles can be much worse though, or so I have heard.
