I have my prescription benefits through CVS Caremark and just found out that they will no longer carry or pay for 28 expensive drugs. 3 of these are MS treatments. I have been on Avonex for 7 yrs. and have not had a relapse, there is no generic available so does anyone have any recomendations for a new DMD? My other concern is that other carriers will follow suit. This could be the beginning of our NEW health reforms real effects. comments?
I have not been contacted by CVS yet and it won't go into effect until 01/01/2016, so we will have to wait and see. I do use co pay assistance so it has cost me nothing the last couple of years but that is because my prescription benefit paid for it too.
I Just found this out also. I have been on Avonex for 3 years. I called Avonex and they read a blurb from CVS/Caremark and it stated that if you are currently on Avonex, it will still be covered. If you are receiving from Caremark/CVS specialty Pharmacy, you will still be able to get from this Pharmacy. Calling CVS/Caremark Customer Care, I did not receive this information. They just gave me a list of drugs that I could switch to. I am on my husbands insurance, not Medicare or Medicaid. Not sure if that makes a difference.
The particular Medicare drug coverage company you have (in most cases) their own specialty drug distributor. Like CooLioness said, ACS is one of the specialty drug providers, and Walgreens also has their own specialty drug distributor, which also has good customer service. I didn't realize I had a choice, and was switched from Walgreens to ACS two years ago. When they tried to switch providers on me at the beginning of last year, I said no, I want to stay with ACS. Customer service is very important, and ACS does a great job.
I had my husband ask his hr about using another pharmacy and they said we could use a different pharmacy, problem lies in finding another specialty pharmacy. :/
