Members overwhelmingly agreed that stress is one of the worst triggers for MS, with many describing how it intensifies existing symptoms like pain, numbness, weakness, tremors, and cognitive issues, and can even trigger full flares or progression to secondary progressive MS. Several members shared practical coping strategies, including breathing exercises, prayer, rest in dark cool rooms, mindfulness techniques, eliminating stressful people or situations when possible, and staying engaged with hobbies like art, music, or gardening to redirect negative energy. A recurring theme was the frustration of invisible symptoms that others cannot see, the difficulty of avoiding stress entirely when it comes from family or unavoidable circumstances, and the importance of self-compassion, setting boundaries, and recognizing that some days require complete rest while others allow for a bit more activity.

MOST DEFINITELY!!!!! When I was first diagnosed my neurologist insisted I speak to my boss regarding reducing my stress levels at work. HEAT is the second thing that we need to avoid as best as possible. My M. S is so much worse in the summer. Hope this is helps

@ GricelValdes Definitely caused my arm to spasm to the point it pinched the nerve in my arm that caused my hand to go totally numb and calasped my carpell tunnel still no feeling in my thumb and pointer finger even after several months of Physical Therapy. Now have PBA , adding yet another med to have to add to the twenty I already had to take. It is not possible to avoid the stress when those close to you prefer to deny you have anything wrong . It makes it not real for them if they deny it but causes lots of pain for me. It is what it is, God has a plan and it is not for me to question just to trust that God has got this๐Ÿ˜œ

Feeling numb here and this ain't good. Both of my feet were numb. That was 23 years ago. Now, my toes are numb. 'Wish we didn't have to suffer this way. Eat chocolate ~ can't hurt. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Stress ia poison to MS all of us! Try your hardest to live as stress free as possible. I had to cut friends out of my life that stressed me out constantly. Sad but true

@A MyMSTeam Member; all the answers in the world, and you still hurt; I am lucky not to have any thing more than aches and discomfort, no real harsh pain; so I can't answer, what I don't know; it's true that keeping stress down helps, but it doesn't always stop the hurt. I got a pill from CVS pharmacy for my wife who has pain in her hips and legs, you might give it a try, it is their store brand , called pain relief, it's acetaminophen and diphenhydramine hci, supposed to be a sleep aid, it's non prescription and not to expensive; maybe it might help!
