Members living with MS shared personal experiences around removing metal fillings, chelation therapy, and cleaning up their environment as ways to support their health before or alongside medical treatment. Several members mentioned replacing amalgam fillings, using water purifiers, trying chelation for heavy metals like gadolinium from MRI dye, and working with functional medicine doctors to check for nutrient deficiencies. A recurring theme was the importance of doing these steps carefully, including finding properly trained dentists for safe amalgam removal and getting heavy metal testing done first.

Removal can make you worse when you get them out. There are very few drs that are trained to remove them properly. (See link below) You don't want to get them out by any dentist. There are things that you can do prior to the removal to help your body be prepared for detoxing (vitamin c, magnesium, etc).

Once you disturb them, you may release more toxins into your body. They are an issue if they are leaking or whatever but if they are not bothering you, then Id leave them alone.

Have you had a heavy metals test? Was mercury high? A functional medicine or naturopath do these tests, if ypur pcp wont.

Here is a good site recommended to me by my functional medicine dr and also my hubby is a dentist. https://iaomt.org/safe-removal-amalgam-fillings/

@A MyMSTeam Member @A MyMSTeam Member I am starting to believe all these neurologists and drug companies are using us to make money. Every time the neurologists has you fill a prescription he is making a cut. These drugs aren't curing us they MIGHT make you feel a bit better but then you get to deal with the awful side effects and who knows the long term effects. In the long run we will still be in the same downward hill. I met hundreds of MSer's at the Neurovascular Health Conference in October and they ALL said the same thing to me - stay away from the drugs! Many of these amazing positive people were in chairs or had canes and they were all against the drugs. They told me they're in the same place they would have been in without the drugs BUT they had to deal feeling like crap from the drugs side effects. Whats better? I guess that is a totally personal answer for all of us. We are all dealing with different symptoms. I wish I had a copy of the list ( I might be able to obtain it if you're interested) they showed us a list of US neurologists who made large lump sums of money from the drug companies unfortunately this information isn't published in Canada. Serious conflicts of interest such as this are a major problem when it comes
to getting reliable and objective data from a neurologist.
More research needs to be done in nutrietion and exercise - for all auto-immune problems. I look at people like me, Dr Terry Wahls, Matt Embry….so many more who have changed their diet/exercise and have seen such positive results. It's very hard to do but so worth it.
That's my 2 bits - this is all knew to me but why can't they find a cure for us why just make us kinda feel better. Makes me think these pharmaceutical companies and Dr.s have a good thing going. Why don't they tell us a way to prevent this awful disease. I've heard a simple way is to make sure our children are getting lots of VitD - easy…..
Wishing you all a Healthy Happy Day and go have a Kale salad with wild salmon for dinner :)

@A MyMSTeam Member yes! More research needs done on nutritional deficiencies. I just found a functional med dr and I'm very deficient in some nutrients. Maybe this is why they can't figure out the cause of MS, cuz everyone has different toxins and nutrient deficiencies. Once you get too many deficiencies or one too many heavy metals, Mold exposures, bacteria, etc your body is overwhelmed, shuts down causing an autoimmune disease. Who knows! We'll probably never get to the real answer. But good for you for trying to figure out what helps you. Everyone is different.

It is hypothesized that heavy metal toxicity can contribute or even cause an autoimmune disorder. I myself feel if I'm going to b put on aggressive drugs soon, possibly be in a wheelchair by end of 2016, it's my duty to myself to do what I can beforehand to make my body healthier. This is just one aspect, there's also diet, exercise, suppliments, reading, naturopath appts....wish I felt better to do it all 😨 Thankyou for all the info ☺
