My legs feel like I'm wearing a tight rubber suit (squeezed feeling) with a lot of weakness. It's a struggle to even lift my legs because they feel very heavy. Basically, a stiff, tight feeling. When I try to lay down, I occasionally get what I call "lightening strikes" shooting down my legs. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?
@Betennant I had that I lost feeling in both my legs but didn't notice it till I tried to stand - I fell into a mirror and cut my leg open, I was like great what do I do I can't walk, at the time my landlady lived above me and I had to pull myself up the stairs - it was a horrible experience - when I first got MS I had Optic neuritis I lost vision in my right eye and started to loose it my left - the vision came back but the MS scarred my retina leaving me slightly colour blind in the right eye. I still get pain in my right eye and suffer from headaches....I really sympathise with you xx
Long and short of it - sounds like you have spasticity....the lightening strike pain sounds like nerve damage - I had very similar problems - I was put onto Carbamazepine for this - its horrible MS symptom...I was in pain everyday from the tightness and cramping - I would definitely get in touch with your MS Nurse/consultant about this as there are drugs to help with this unpleasant symptom - baclofen/pregablin etc can be used. Sorry you are going through this hunni...hope you get the right treatment for it soon xx
Thanks GinaBeth, I've had the "lightening strikes" or "electric zaps" down my legs, but it only happened when walking or standing. That's been going on for year since I have degenerative disc disease, I I know those little suckers like to play with your nerves that was. It makes me think that I've been blowing off a lot of red flags for awhile now. Unfortunately, I can blow off the numbness in my hands and feet anymore. Because of that, I stopped driving in September. Ick! Thanks for giving it a name, now I won't seem so ignorant when I see my new neuro in a few weeks. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
The lightning strikes sound like lhermitte's sign. Does it help to stretch your legs, like the achilles stretch? I had same problems with spasticity long before diagnosed when my husband was in the military , only back then the military hospital just ran tests for arthritis, so I just learned to deal with it same way I do now. I'm lousy at taking medication, so I take tizanadine only when it's bothering my sleep. Guess the blessing of having a progressive diagnosis is there is no DMDs which I would forget to take anyhow.
@A MyMSTeam Member I was speaking to @A MyMSTeam Member about the Optic Neuritis I'm sure it is just your tired eyes - so hope you don't get what we had its very unpleasant - funny you should describe it as elastic band legs - that's how I described it to my Neurologist lol
