I have been having an issue with a muscle spasm in my calf that's like a constant Charlie horse for several days now... feels like my muscle is torn it's so painful! I've been drinking lots of water and stretching lots. Any other ideas?

Members responded with empathy and practical advice to someone dealing with a painful, ongoing calf muscle spasm from MS. Several members shared remedies that have helped them, including ice packs wrapped in a towel, magnesium supplements, pickle juice, bananas, rubbing alcohol massages, and handheld massagers. A recurring theme was checking with a doctor about prescription muscle relaxers like baclofen, tizanidine, or gabapentin, with members noting that finding the right dosage can be a balancing act.

I've heard eating bananas are good for preventing charliehorses. Maybe try a heating pad on calves at night, and/or handheld massager? Good luck.

Yes magnesium and my Mom suggested I eat a banana a day to help it does help me. Still get those Charlie horses but don't seem be as bad or leave my calf as sore! Oh and rubbing alcohol massages on calves helped me too. My Mom has had a stroke and her nurses suggested these to her

Magnesium everyday reduces the spasms and Charlie horse. Also try a shot of pickle juice. I've not tried it but athletes use it for cramping. X
