Here are the instructions. Good luck. Let me know if you have questions.
My neurologist ran a large portion of the clinical trial and currently has between a few hundred patients on Tecfidera. I followed his instructions and have never had a single side effect. Here are the instructions: for breakfast, eat Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts, wheat toast with natural peanut butter and a banana, or oatmeal with fruit and nuts. Eat evening pill with dinner. If you are not eating with the pill, take it with a protein shake or bar. Side effects are minimized with protein intake
For flushing: take two adult aspirin and treat like a fever.
For itching: take a Claritin in the am and a Benadryl at bedtime.
For reflux: Zantac 150 mg twice per day.
I also took the lower 120 mg dose for the first four weeks instead of the jest week. They told me on week five if I had any issues to call and they would titrate up slower.
I took it for 1 1/2 years. I had problems with flushing when I started (REALLY itchy, red skin). I started with allergy meds to no avail, and then took aspirin, which completely took away that side effect. Then about a year into taking it, my white cell count went below normal and stayed there, so I had to stop taking it. I figure I have a relapse about every 6 months when I'm not taking anything, and it was over a year before I had one with Tecfidera. I wish I could've stayed on it since it was so easy to take. Hope this helps.
Had to make sure I ate before taken medicine.
@A MyMSTeam Member, the bowel movements mishaps are truly scary and that was mainly the reason I said no more tecfidera and I was scared of the other side effects, death, who wants anything to do with that word.
I love it! I have had no real side effects. I was given instructions by my neuro and followed them and have done very well. I can give them to you if you want. I feel much more stable. It can lower wbc but your doctor will monitor.
