My MS neurologist called me this morning and said UHC was dropping Vulmerity from its formulary. He urged me to go on Bafiertam and I've never heard of it, let alone taken it. So I'm curious - has anyone? Pluses, minuses? Thanks.
Has anyone taken Bafiertam, and what are the pluses and minuses?
Bafiertam is a formulation of monomethyl fumarate, which is related to dimethyl fumarate (Tecfidera). Both work similarly as Nrf2 activators, helping protect cells from damage by reducing the number of white blood cells that attack the nervous system.

I was told only that United Healthcare wasn’t covering it any longer. I have no other information.
@A MyMSTeam Member. Sorry, I haven't taken Bafiertam. Read everything above that MYMSTEAM posted! Lots of information there! Ask your Neurologist Why UHC dropped Vulmerity from their formulary? I agree with Margann. Is it a good change for you specifically knowing your blood work and medical history? What are the side effects? Research these yourself also. Is there a recommended down-time after you took the old medicine before you start a new medication? Ask whatever you need to feel confident about the new medication. We all care for you! 🤗
