Has anyone who was approved for ssdi and was eligible for a private company pension penalized for withdrawing early not because of their age, but because their company did not have any specific provisions for persons who are disabled? And how did you proceed? was this even legal? Even the IRS has provisions for not penalizing a person approved by SS. Hope that makes sense...i worked for a company for which i am 100% vested, so i am certainly eligible to receive m pension however the company… read more

Be careful. If you have Long Term Disability, when you receive social security that dollar amount will be deducted from the amount your long term disability pays you monthly, and you will have to pay them your back pay. Second, if you have any pension income, that will also be deducted from what the long term disability pays you. Most long term disability policies have an expiration date of when the benefits end. Usually your retirement age. So, you will not want to take your pension now. You will just be giving it to long term disability. Best to leave your pension alone, you will need it when LTD expires.

When I applied 4 SSDI I had to cash mine in, taxes were taken out but I got that back at tax time. I know w SS u r only allowed a certain amount each month and if u exceed that they take away the difference for a few months. I also know some people who have had to sign over some benefits to family members so they can receive the SS.

Thanks @A MyMSTeam Member I hear you on that with the Long Term Disability. I received LTD for almost 3 years and then it was denied which i am appealing that decision with an attorney at the present time...first appeal, and then the second.. heading into a class action suit now.. so nothing to deduct from LTD regarding the pension..as far as the pension goes the company for which i worked has been sold at least 3 times now and im concerned about what could happen to my pension if the company goes belly up..

Hey, I'm so sorry you are having these problems. It's hard to believe there are no provisions for disability, especially that you're 100% vested. Glad to know you will appeal. I just want to wish you well during this process. Keep your head up. The longer it takes the more money you will have in back pay. I know there is no silver lining in waiting for your own money. At least it's something to look forward to. GOOD LUCK!!
