I would love to find out if anyone has Macrocytosis along with MS. My doctor has found that I have it, but is very confused due to the fact that usually you have low b-12 or folic acid levels and mine are normal, I read a few places that sometimes it is associated with MS. MY DR. said sometimes that it I caused by drinking alcohol, so now I am told to not drink for 60 days tand then do another blood test. OH NO!!!!!!!! I LOVE MY RED WINE!!!!!
For those of you that does not know what it is… read more
@A MyMSTeam Member you are cracking me up!! Yes, I had the test done twice and it was abnormal both times. I am sitting here drinking a glass of wine trying to decide if I am going to stop for 60 days or just go straight to the blood doctor. (I don't know how to spell that type of doctor so I did not try....LOL) Hemo....something!! I will start the 60 days tomorrow!! No, really I need to stop and try at least....doc said that I could do a 60 day no alcohol run or get a bone marrow biopsy. I am sorry but BOTH sound as bad as the other to me. It will be a painful summer let me tell you!! I may be divorced over this!! jk
Yup, it's a day of mourning when they tell you that your wine intake has finally influenced your blood work. Giving up that glass, ( or in my case...the better part of a 750 ml bottle...my mother gets a glass with me for medicinal purposes ) puts a lump in my throat just thinking about it. It's a catch22. Give up the wine for 60 days and a) see no more macrocytosis...which would mean it WAS the wine...( stick a needle in my eye if it was me now)
or
B) Give up the wine and STILL have macrocytosis...which would mean it wasn't the wine...
But, on the bright side...you could sit down, put your feet up, and have a drink. My favourite is a nice Merlot.
Apothic Red if I can get it. Beautiful California blend...
Hey! Brain wave!!!
In true support group fashion...I could go on the wagon with you, and we could blog about how it feels to go 60 days without red wine. ( selfishly I say that because after 60 days, you might be the only person left on the planet speaking to me.)
I hope your levels settle out. Maybe it was just a fluky blood work thing...dust on the slide...an expired tube of blood...they mixed your sample up with that geezer that sat next to you....
@A MyMSTeam Member Yes, I do know what MS meds do. Thank you for expalining that to me. I was not sure what dmd stood for, but I had a pretty good idea. I am going to take MS meds soon, but right now I am going through testing for another thing that is scarier than MS. My doc is watching me closely and can't put me on MS med right now. I do not have a alcohol dependence problem, I just enjoy drinking wine. It is not impossible for me to give up, trust me!!!!! As with anything, if a doctor told me to give up bread it would have been the same to me. If someone told me NOT to eat or drink something, then that is when I would crave it more so. Since you do not know me, you do not have any idea of how much wine I drink. Especially when all you read was that I Love red wine!! I love candy too!! :)
@A MyMSTeam Member what is dmd? If it is ms medication I am not on any yet because I'm newly diagnosed.
Well, by the time those tests are all done you'll probably deserve a drink from a glass the size of the average country rain barrel. Or go straight for the trough....it's been day 2 for me...purely because I had to work the last 2 evenings, and they frown on Recovery Room RN with Merlot breath. I just got up and am off for a week. This may kick the 60 day challenge up a notch. Watch your Canadian News for "Atlantic Canada Suffers Unexplained drop in Liquor Sales."
