I am wondering how many other ms patients out there are taking anti-depressant meds and/or how many have been told they should be a normal part of their regimen?
I went to one neuro who believed that anyone with MS must be depressed and really pushed me to go on them. Even said I would be headed into a nervous breakdown and need psychiatric care if I didn't take some. I refused because I am not and never have been depressed! Her "prophecy" was stated nearly 10 years ago and I have never had a breakdown and never seen anyone for psychiatric care. In fact, anyone who knows me is shocked by the fact that she thought I suffered from depression because it just isn't true! So...unless you know you are depressed, I would refuse. Be aware, the doc may get angry at you like mine did, but you can always find a new doctor. I also later found out she had lied about the results of my MRI as well as one of my husbands!
@A MyMSTeam Member - I know from someone who did similar, that you cannot abruptly stop taking depressants, especially certain ones are really nasty. You have to wean yourself off them gradually in order to know for sure that you don't need them and or to discover you possibly need a lot lower dosage than thought. Google your medication and see what is said about stopping it by those who have been there.
I have been trying to be actively involved in my feeling better. Controlling what stress' me by not giving energy to that problem. I have read Terry Wahls book "The Wahls Protocol" She is a doctor with MS. I have to find my smile again!
Thank you for all of your input. I have been going back and forth about it. I have never felt that I needed them, however after this last terrible exacerbation I have started taking Trazadone. I don't know if it's helping or not. I still feel exhausted and kind of down about realizing I no longer control my body, but it controls me. I guess it's all part of the process. I thought maybe it was just me that had to make the decision about this type of medication. It is unfortunate for us all, but reassuring to know that I am not alone.
@A MyMSTeam Member you are always on point .. Very well instructed ... I love your comments .. They had help me a lot !!!
Thanks
I've been on them for 15 years, long before my Dx in 2014. I felt lately I could manage without them and stopped 3 weeks ago....bad mistake.
I was OK until a few days ago but have started to feel generally unwell, I'm off to the docs in an hour to sort myself out with more pills.
