I'm starting Copaxone Monday & was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for helping with or preventing injection bumps, injection pain (not Tylenol) or Shot Reactions ( fast heart rate, sweats & such ) ? Thank you lots of hugs & much love as always.
I get a sting when I inject with copaxone can't find anything to help with that, I have tried ice and heat but does not help for me, once I got used to the shot it don't bother me now, but when I started I got a headache and itching at injection site but I don't now
I'm on copaxone 40mg 3 time's a week mon wed fri shot myself in 7 bell thigths hips arms
Don't rub first day just apply warm compress to area
So first, let the nurse walk you through everything. They will stick to the standard grid for shots, but if you are having trouble, talk to your doctor about alternate sites. It stings every time I inject, but then goes away. I personally ice for longer after a shot (nurse will say a minute). I also had one time where I got the shivers for 2 hours. That was early on (week 3 I think) and hasn't happened since. The first three months were the toughest, now, 1.25 years later, it's just routine.
I've been on copaxone for 4 years, initially on the daily dose, but now on the 3x a week. I've used ice packs and I've used heat at different times over the years, immediately after injection as a gentle compress. Both seem to ease the initial sting I get from the injection. They don't recommend any massage of the spot for at least 24 hours after the injection,. I'm usually left with a small hard lump for a while & occasionally a small bruise. I used to get irritating itching of the site, but not for a good while now as my body became used to it I guess. I've only once ever had one of those random sudden post injection reactions where you get flushing, rapid heart beat & tightening of the chest - I also had horrendous pains shooting up my spine & stomach cramps - but it was all over in about half an hour & I've never had anything like it ever since - it happened to me within the first few months of taking the drug. Copaxone seems to be working wel for me - only 1 relapse in 4 & a half years - hope it works for you too ! Hope this helps.
