Members navigating Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) denials for MS shared that long wait times and multiple denials are unfortunately common, but several strategies can help move the process forward. Several members recommended contacting a U.S. senator or congressman to inquire about the case, as political involvement can sometimes prompt judges to schedule hearings sooner, and others emphasized the importance of having a neurologist write a detailed narrative about symptoms and limitations. A recurring theme was the emotional and financial toll of the waiting process, with members encouraging one another to stay the course, explore local financial assistance resources like calling 211, and remember that SSDI back pay is calculated from the original application date.

A lot depends on your attorney.

Also, your neurologist's report is of utmost importance. Have he/she write a narrative about how bad your symptoms are and how disabled you are.

My neurologist was so angry when I was denied that she dictated a report while I was sitting there with her. Then my case went right through.

Also, some of it has to do with state funding for the review of disability cases. They have heavy caseloads. The ratio of examiners to cases it all comes down to money

Contact your US senator from your area. There is no reason someone should have to be put through this crap! I contacted mine when I started looking into it and told him about all the issues of having to go through to get something that you paid into. He actually responded with a letter and a request for medical records so that he could help. Worth a shot
