I'm a complete mess. I thought I had back pain for 2 years but I have MS. The back pain is severe but I also have pain and numbness and tingling in my legs and feet. Insurance denied Tysabri so I've not started MS meds yet. My question is -did anyone start meds and get stable with some relief of symptoms? If so what meds and how long did it take. I just finished an IV prednisone course which did not help at all.
That was '04. My neuro eventually suggested that I give the inter furon a break. Then 17 mo. on Tecfidera pills. No side effects except low wbc, so he put me on Tysabri infusions 13 months ago. I'm still walking despite a huge relapse and 3 day hosp stay last week. They pumped me full of steroids and then discharged me. Still walking after 25 yrs since dx
Thanks Chrisy--my insurance denied Tysabri and my neurologist said they will appeal and I will get it one way or another so in the meantime I'm not on anything and I'm scared. I asked about this and she said they are not worried about the next month or so and the best thing is for me to wait a month or two until I can get the Tysabri.
I am on Tecfidera which is the latest oral that has been approved. I have had minimal side effects. Prior meds included Copaxone, Rebif and Tysabri. All were O.K. The key is to make sure that you don't get taken off one without being placed on another. I was taken off of Copaxone due to a site infection by a prior doctor who did not put me on anything else. 4 months later I had a exasperation and ended up in a nursing home for 3 months. I had full functions (walking too) prior to the incident and now I am wheelchair bound and only able to use my left arm.
I am on copaxone shots 3x a week.....just started it almost two months ago
