Although I am not a fan of flying, I am supposed to fly to Florida in a few months. I was wondering if flying effects people with MS. I read some articles that say yes and some that say no. So I figured I would ask the experts. So experts, any feedback or experience on this matter would be appreciated.

Just got back from a nonstop 16 hour flight from Hong Kong yesterday and I fly quite a bunch
I've not had any ill effects
I do make a point to book seat in last row closest to restrooms and galley so I can get up and move around without being bothersome
Good luck and safe travels!
Next week I have to fly to St Lucia ( definitely less travel time there)

Hi, I fly Southwest Airlines and always have a dr note saying it's hard for me to stand for long periods in line and walking a lot with suitcases so I always have a wheelchair reserved for flying out and returning. They wheel me past long security lines and also have a wheelchair ready as I get off the plane. Sitting in the wheelchair helps physically with my spinal and leg issues. They never actually ask to see proof of the doctor note, and all you need to do is call ahead and ask them to note your needs for the wheelchair. It's also a big emotional relief to not be in pain or discomfort. I hope that helps you. Contact me if you need anything else. With all the effects of MS, you have the right to a wheelchair.

I fly to Florida twice a year. On the plane, I do fine. Walking through the airport I experience pins and needles, overheating and exhaustion.

I've flown many times with MS, the longest of which was over 24 hours of traveling time with a single leg was 16 hours (atlanta to Johannesburg). I did fine except with the length of time you have to get up frequently to move esp if you have leg symptoms and/or restless leg. Watch any time changes cause it can throw off what times you take meds. The only time i had trouble was when i was fresh off a relapse still recovering and needed to use a wheelchair. It makes security interesting but its actually easy logistically to do. Overall I'd say it hasnt affected me directly.
