Looking for pros/cons to the diet. From my understanding it's basically a vegan diet that allows seafood and fish...I was vegan for about 6 months and it's very hard to stick to when you have a busy lifestyle and your family won't eat the food. I'm just curious if cutting out dairy really makes a difference. Thanks for your time!

5 months ago I found the OMS site, bought some of the books, instantly became what my family calls, a vegan that eats seafood. i Come from a large family and we all love food, all kinds of food. I have been very diligent with this diet. I only wanted to try it out and see as I f felt I had nothing to lose. Well, in 3 weeks I felt a difference and by 2 months, people were asking me what meds I had started. I am now 5 months and have not touched and dairy, and not eaten any meat, no land animal period. I lived on dairy and chicken, loved homemade burgers and steak. I still prepare it for family, go to great suppers that I bring my own food, and I do because, when people say, it must be hard, no, not in comparison to what I was feeling. I now am back doing many things I could not do, My energy level has sky rocketed, I am sleeping well, eating well, positive high spirits, my hair and skin feels so healthy, many symptoms stopped. I have no more fatigue, and yes, I walk with a cane, not all of the time, and do need to stop when I have pushed too much, but I am back to walking 5 to 8 thousand steps a day, after dropping down to 600 to 1,000. I can not believe that giving up a few foods I so love, helped me be Mary again, maybe not fully, but when I think of where I was a year ago, this is great.

I was vegan before looking at the OMS diet which I follow, I cut out alcohol & coffee for a long time, then had it back in when chronic fatigue was bad (the coffee not the alcohol) yet the odd wine. Few weeks ago cut them both out again after school holidays & a trip I was out of whack & whilst natural sugars, I had a few things I usually wouldn't have.
I am definitely better eating well. However I do not profess as some it is a CURE. I still have lesions.

I have been a vegan for a long while. I am also a yogi, I practice daily & I teach. Some days I am more useful than others, some days I am completely out of sorts & not doing great.

I think it's about knowing your lesions where are they, what are they affecting, knowing your body & your triggers. Mine is definitely stress & heat. I find it hard to avoid both.

Most good healthy eating plans today, even Harvard University put out a new pyramid & it doesn't include dairy.

Tune into you, take what people say & then mould it to your own needs. No one has a cure. No diet is a cure. You cannot heal dead cells, maybe repair the damaged or those at risk of further damage.

I combine an integrated approach with mindfulness, meditation, yoga, diet & I am definitely better for it.

WOW, so inspired to read about everyone's successes! I'm on the MITO food plan - my DR who also has MS is on this and she says it's the best for mitochondria health and helps a lot with MS symptoms. It definitely wants you to eat mostly plant-based foods, but some high quality meats are allowed. Posting it here in case anyone wants to check it out:

I mostly cut out dairy and sugar and pork, having beef every once in a while. Smoothies every day with pineapple, banana, blueberries, kale, spinach, coconut milk, turmeric and black pepper. I definitely feel better than I did last year, and better than 6 months ago

Ya the more I read about dairy, the worse it seems. I was just really hoping that wasn't the case! lol I love Greek yogurt in my smoothies and I can't imagine a work wo cheese!! Lol I haven't been able to bring myself to try the fake stuff yet...but I'm willing to try and at least cut out bad stuff. My body has been fighting me, and I'm currently not on meds. A good start I think is to tighten up in the diet area.

Thank you all for your input!!
