My husband is trying hard but I know he’s frustrated because he has to work, cook and try to take care of myself and my 2 boys who are 12 &15. I always worked full time my whole life and even provided when my husband lost his job but I can’t work anymore due to the cerebral tremors in my left hand. My husband read up on MS so he somewhat gets it but even though we try to explain to our boys they just think I’m lazy. I need some help. My parents just ignore me they only seem to care about their… read more
Has a any of your family taken seminars at the MS society? I know there is one for the youngsters that is terrific and fun too. The adult spouse group is also terrific and would also get him in contact with guys. It is a beer night. Your parents likely don't understand either and feel they are challenged that may have been "in the family". They also need to do the seminar and the group.
I know how you feel! My husband always tried to get me doing all the things I used to do - his motto was "if you don't use it, you lose it". So I suppose he was being cruel to be kind! Not much consolation I know. But now we're just two retirees I know from hearing him speaking to friends how much he cares about me and worries about the MS. So I suppose the answer to your problem is to do what you can do, and get help when you need it - our families can be our greatest ally! Hope you don't get too frustrated by your limitations and can learn new coping strategies and just enjoy your family as they grow up! X
Mabie Your Children could help Your Husband around the House pick up the slack. When My Kid's were that age they had to because like Your Husband Mine was also very busy.
My suggestion is to have a chat with your family about making a move to a city that can provide you with more access to services and a better job for your husband. Living in rural areas is tremendously hard for someone with MS. It is nice living out there but when you are 4 hours away from family, services, neurologists and MS clinics you have to decide whether it is worth it or not. Even in a rural area trying to get assistance with marriage/realtionship issues is also almost impossible. You will have to think of what is right for YOU and having no access is not RIGHT. Don't feel guilty either because you are no damn good to your family when you don't have access to proper treatment. That is what you would do if it was your husband or your children that needed this so I really think this is a non issue. In town you will have more help from your family too. They all need to get these seminars going including the kids. You didn't ask for this disease,, neither did I. Unfortunately for your family to survive this disease they need to change attitudes, which is part of a marriage and part of a family as a whole. You need to have a family meeting, not apologizing, but one that you can hand out these books from the MS Society which are free and ask them what they can see as areas where they can help you and your family deal with this illness. Where you are is no longer workable, a move is. Luv.
When my son were about that age we made a one day experiment, one would not use his right hand an the youngest would have a problem with his legs... It was very helpful they understood that life is not always easy ....
