I had heard a while back, that a brace might help. My drop foot is getting worse, and wondering if there's something out there that could help. Thanks.

About 7yrs ago I was living near Seattle WA and, my gf asked me to go over to shop at Pike Street Market. We went over and all of a sudden I felt the exhaustion hit me but more than that...I wasn't able to step up onto a curb, and fell flat on my face. Not only was that embarrassing but it was just one of many times throughout my life. It happens when I least expect it and usually at a very inopportune time. When I I fall it's without any warning. And eventually after I recover from the fall, and get help to rest...it subsides.

I have used a brace for my foot drop now for close to 20 years. The only problem with wearing one that long , your ligaments shorten causing further problems down the road. I don't always wear the brace/orthotic as often as I am supposed to. Call it pride or stubbornness lol

I also have drop foot. What I have is a AFO (ankle, foot, orthanic) not right spelling. Goes in my shoe. Very lightweight and comfortable. Have your Neurologist or Primary Care Dr. write a prescription for it and send it to a Ortho place for you. Then you go have it sized. Insurance paid for mine. It definitely helps.

i use the Ottobock AFO. This helps with walking yet allows enough flexibility to kneel . At first I was reluctant to wear it but now I don't leave the house without it.

I have used an orthotic splint for years. My calf muscles have inevitably wasted somewhat, but at least I don't seem to trip as often! Indoors I don't wear it as much, and fall more! There is a good reason, with the changes in floor surface indoors ( tiles, carpet and wood ), which causes more issues with the splint on.
