These are people that are very close to me & one girl has a chronic medical condition also which surprised me...
MS is like having a girlfriend nobody likes. It takes a lot of time you would otherwise be spending with your friends. They will with time learn to accept you with your MS and the ones that don't, o'well that's just human nature. Don't let the ones that don't or can't accept keep you down. You have a long fight ahead and it will be easier and less stressful with positive and caring people fighting with you. God bless you.
I know excactly what you mean. Sometimes when I am feeling down, I reply to people who ask me “”how is things’, or how are you today? Thinking that they want to know, So I reply what I feel on that day. Often I get an ok, ok, ok, not your best day, I get it. I think people just ask to appear interested, so now, my answer is ‘oh, I’m okay, and you’? Then I found that people who really want to know, would rebuttal with, ‘no really how is your ms today.? I found that this solved the problem of politeness with asking how are you?
And you soon find out who your real friends are. Just an observation
@A MyMSTeam Member...yes,its hard to talk about anything else when u are dealing with what we are dealing with on a daily basis.
I am dealing with sensory symptoms on a daily basis and it really stinks... My aunt Alex had this disease, she got it back in the 60's when there was no treatment...I think of her almost daily, she has passed on , but always had a smile on her face..her daughters cared for her until the end...she was a true MS warrior.
I will learn to speak to those that want to listen and those that Don't I will ignore it & more on
Thanks for the birthday wishes.
Happy Thanksgiving to u & yours!!
@A MyMSTeam Member "MS is like having a girlfriend nobody likes. " I laugh, great comparison!
@A MyMSTeam Member I'll agree with @A MyMSTeam Member. Counselling really helps. And be patient with yourself. I was diagnosed in 2012 and only now, 2017, I can say that I don't think about MS all the time. At first, it was the only thing I think, talk and research. It's something so surprising that it's really difficult to talk about other subjects. I hope this get easier for you soon.
And Happy Birthday! \o/
Counseling helps take the pressure off friends and family some, a safe place to talk about it as much as you want and learn coping skills at the same time.. worked for me anyways
