Anyone tried daith piercing for headaches? Results?
The daith is a small piece of cartilage in the inner ear. Daith piercings can take a long time to heal and run the risk of infection.Western medicine is skeptical about the ability of an ear piercing to treat such a complicated, historically tricky disease like Migraine. Unfortunately, there have been no clinical studies on the piercing to date, so there is little evidence outside of anecdotes to back up the piercing. Even so, Migraine drives us to try crazier things than an ear piercing, and the lack of clinical evidence is not stopping many, many people with Migraine from giving it a shot.
For many, the cost/benefit seems attractive: for $40-50 per piercing, it’s less expensive and no more painful than other needle-based therapies (Botox, nerve blocks, injectable triptans, acupuncture) we’ve tried. But before you book an appointment at your local piercing studio, read the Good, the Bad and the Ugly truth about Daith piercing for migraine from real people in our community.
