Anybody have or know someone who have both Myasthenia Gravis and MS? I have optic neuritis in my left eye but my right eye is slightly droopy. I went to see a thyroid specialist last week and she asked me was I sure I had MS and was I ever treated for any other auto immune disease. I don’t need nothing else but she got me to thinking. My mom have Myasthenia Gravis which is sister to MS.

@A MyMSTeam Member It’s entirely possible you have MG instead of MS. Wasn’t it you who didn’t get a diagnosis right away and if so, didn’t you work with your PCP by sending you to different specialists to try to figure out what was going on? That’s what mine did with me.
I have a link for you to check out information on MG. From what I read, it seems from how your symptoms are progressing MG is more realistic than MS for what you may have. If that’s the case, there’s potential for you to gain strength back in your muscles through a different type of treatment than what you’re using right now. If you’re lucky enough you might even get a permanent remission.

At this point, all that matters is to figure out what’s really going on and get a correct diagnosis if it’s not MS so you can start taking the proper medication.
I had (or have?) optic neuritis & this past September I had my thyroid taken out (my ms mri picked up nodule-my follow up mri saw it grow 100%-a tell tale sign for thyroid cancer) - 100% cured since it didnt spread. So I can actually say my ms saved me from cancer.
I don’t know anyone that has both but I’m starting to believe that I may have lupus instead of MS. My sister died from lupus and I have an aunt and 3 1st cousins that have lupus. No one in my family has MS. So I’m starting to think that I may have lupus as no MS treatment has helped at all.
Other auto immune diseases are often found in families of those who have MS. Aproximately 75%d all initial MS DX's begin with having Optic neuritis. If you have been DX'd by a MS Neurology Specialist than chances are you have MS but getting a second opinion doesn't hurt. If the DX was made by your family doctor or a General Neurologist than it be best to having it confrimed by a MS Neurology Specialist.
I don't know whether Myasthenia Gravis might have an impact on MS, but do know that many doctors use Corticosteroids to suppress the autoimmune response related to the disease. I suggest you get a second opinion. Unfortunately. as I do not know anyone who has both diseases, I cannot be of much more help. Sending many blessings to you.
