My left eye twitches underneath in the morning when I wake up and it usually lasts about 20 min to half hour. It has been consistently twitching non-stop for over two weeks now. Does this mean I'm experiencing an exacerbation?
Have you tried taking magnesium (or a calcium/magnesium/D3 combo)? Even if the cause is due to an MS flare or new symptom, a deficiency in minerals can make it worse..and even bring about twitching. Just a thought from a nutritionist with MS :)
@A MyMSTeam Member oh gosh yes the poking or heat sensation awful. Eye twitching or that same pressure pain in eye 👁 is the worst but not worst than the double vision accompanied with the pressure pain
I know how frustrating all of this can be! My neurologist was always dismissive of me as well. Sometimes there is not just one underlying cause for a symptom (MS-related or not), rather it is cumulative. For example, twitching can be caused by MS, but studies show that people with MS tend to be more deficient in magnesium and a deficiency in magnesium can cause muscle and eye twitching. Emotional and physical stress also depletes the body of nutrients as well, which can bring about twitching and other MS symptoms. This is because when we are stressed, our adrenal glands (which are responsible for regulating cortisol, our stress hormone, starts working overtime). And when our adrenal glands are stressed, they start using up more nutrients like B-vitamins, magnesium, and vitamin C, because these are the nutrients the adrenal glands require to function optimally. But if we don’t have enough of these nutrients in our diet, or if we have poor digestion and we’re not effectively absorbing these nutrients from food, we can quickly become deficient. Therefore, the underlying cause of the eye twitch could be a number of factors. This is why I once got rid of an eye twitch just by taking vitamin C. Because I realized this was the one thing I was not getting enough of, and I was really stressed out at the time. Now, I’m not saying this is true for everyone with an eye twitch because we’re all different, but when we know how the body works and the profound impact nutrients have our our health, we’re better equipped to figure out how to address root causes. Just having MS is a stressor on the body! Stress to the mind and body, which can have a real physiological impact.
I have Botox every 3 months for eye twitching and has been very successful
I take medical marijuana a very low dose and that helps some
