I have heard that this can happen, but I'm not sure what it is that causes it! I do know that I've greatly reduced my fluoride intake (special water filter, and "green" dental cleanings) over the past year so it will be interesting to see how that impacts my teeth over time (I am 45 with no cavities or other dental issues).

I’ve just been to the dentist, the first time since diagnosis and I asked them if there is anything I should no as my ms nurse said to make sure I look after my tweeth. The dentist said ms has no effect so perhaps ChrisChrissy is right? Medication?

For me teeth wise for many years i was not aware of any dental issues, turns out i've lost the pain sensation in the nerves of all mine so no dental pain and no headaches (yeah a plus for my MS hmm).
So i now have to be very careful and mindful to maintain good oral hygene. As a result i have had to have at least 7 teeth removed and hadn't realised they had got so bad. Pain usually lets you know of issues before you need something done. I can't say if typical for MSer's but loss of sensation can be due to MS. Its why I have body mapping to monitor it as well especially for my legs.

When I was first diagnosed (2015) a good friend who knows a lot about MS asked me about my dental history. Apparently there is strong correlation between dental work and auto-immune disorders. I don't know anything else about that tho.....will add it to my ongoing research list and post what I find! XX

I just had a 6 month check up and have 1 cavity and 2 years ago I got an implant, (right before MS diagnosis) on a tooth I had a root canal on more than 10 years ago. I think gingivitis has increased for some reason..so my gums are more poor than teeth. I truly feel spending more money on better rinses and toothpaste..like Sensodyne, or Parodontax helps. Plus..I wasnt flossing correctly. But, I would not doubt meds do not help your teeth or they even cause dry mouth, etc which causes dental issues. I am a night teeth grinder as well, so I have a guard to wear when I sleep. That could break your teeth for sure if you grind your teeth.
