Members related to the frustration of others thinking MS is contagious, sharing personal stories of being avoided, questioned, or dismissed by people who misunderstood the condition. Several members noted that confusion often stems from linking MS to other immune-related illnesses heard in the news, and many chose to describe it as a 'neurological condition' to avoid having to over-explain. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of ignorance from even close family and friends, balanced with humor, resilience, and a desire for better public awareness.

Know that i think about it that could be why to find a cure is difficult because each immune system is so different and each brain is different the way the illness takes its course.

I think what makes people think its something you catch, is the term auto immune disease. What auto immune disease do we hear most in the news? HIV.
Just like everyone isnt knowledgable about legal terms, not everyone knows medical terms. They go by what they are famiar with. I agree people should research MS more and understand its an "over active" auto immune disease.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I tell most people I have a "neurological condition" rather than MS. I'm not at all ashamed of it, but the serious lack of understanding out there is HUGE and just sometimes gets exhausting when you have to continuously educate people about it. XX
