I’ve heard so many people say how terrible the heat is for people with MS. This has caused me to just avoid heat completely. That being said, I don’t really know what would happen to me if I did go out in the heat. I really would like to get out and do some yardwork or maybe an outdoor activity or two. What would my consequences be if I did? Does the heat just make you feel like crap, or does it make certain things worse? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😊

Members responded warmly to the question about how heat affects MS, with the general consensus being that it impacts everyone differently but can cause real symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, blurry vision, and weakness. Several members shared practical tips for managing heat, including using cooling towels, neck wraps, and vests from brands like Mission, Frogg Toggs, and Polar, as well as doing outdoor activities in the early morning or evening to avoid peak heat. A recurring theme was self-acceptance and listening to your body, with many encouraging trying activities carefully and learning through personal experience what you can and cannot handle.

The summer is rough. They sell cooling towels and hats that you just wet with cold water to cool you down. They do help. I ordered them online but saw them cheaper in those Ocean State/ big lot store. Online the companies are Mission and Frogg Toggs. Watch the humidity levels. I found myself not doing many things now but its all trial and error now and not being afraid to tell your and other "I can't". That's been the hardest part, self acceptance. Good luck and try to enjoy.

I guess you need to see what happens! I try to only do yard work in the early AM or evenings. I guess when I water my plants time! No sense in watering mid day in the heat, so I feel the same about being in the heat.
