I am having a wonderful experience in therapy with a very competent person. I have never had this kind of therapy before and I'm wondering if this is something I've just missed out on or if this is something unusual. I'm wondering if my neurologist has failed me. I've had MS for 37 years and had the same doctor. If I had this type of therapy years ago, maybe I wouldn't walk as poorly as I do.

Hi Lioness 1. No, that's not the therapy I'm receiving. This is more about understanding the muscle functions or lack thereof and finding what muscles I can work on to improve my gait. For example, I have severe foot drop. No sense working on ankle exercises. Instead I am working on initiating leg movement from my hip muscles, which do have some function.

Thanks so much for looking into this for me, tho. Enjoy your yoga class. It does sound exciting.

The charity I am involved in provides weekly physiotherapy with the Neuro Physiotherapists at our local hospital, and it works to have regular exercise...

@A MyMSTeam Member ..Yes!....twice....first one was excellent when I was first dx..she was a young physio but knew her stuff, had me on the plinth on my back rotating my hips, lots of core exercises, wobble board, exercises uses hands as feet to walk whilst balancing on the exercise ball (difficult but excellent for us)........touching different fingers to thumb on both hands testing hand/eye co-ordination
Second one an older Neurophysio....not conscientious at all ..too much apathy, ....just talked most of the time, then printed out exercise sheets to practise at home. Even had me standing on a wi-fit board once practising ball games on the screen...at my first app't ???😯

A good Dr should have referred you...but its also down to MONEY...and availability.

There is also an exercise referral programme they don't tell you about...ASK YOUR DR..I went swimming, exercise classes, etc....they devise a plan to suit you. Gentle swimming is fabulous, it uses all the muscle groups...just don't try and swim 52 lengths in one go...or you'll find your legs won't be strong enough to get out of the pool...one mistake of mine racing my husband in our pool in Tenerife on holidays...I felt fit and the water warm, but exerted myself in the heat ...I was in bed all afternoon exhausted and fatigued . Must have bern thinking I was completing the silver medal I'd done when I was 10 again😁

Go for it....but gently....and don't forget to ask your Dr x
