I am pretty sure that one "symptom" everyone with MS has is being misdiagnosed! π I've been diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, lupus, myofascial pain syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, trigeminal neuralgia, depression, anxiety disorder, PTSD, what am I forgetting?
I've had MS since my teens but got diagnosed in my late 20s. Since then I've had tons of doctors disagree about what other doctors said. It's maddening.
I keep reading and figuring out myself what may be going on and take the info to my doctors. Some listen, some don't.
Before MS I was told I had Mitro-Valve Prolapse and I was put on Nitro. Pills which I quit. Years after My MS DX. I started having severe pain and My Family Doc. tried to tell Me that MS does not cause Pain and said that I had Fbromyalgia as well as MS. I do not agree!!!!!
In 2006 way before MS diagnosis, 10 yrs to be exact, I was referred to a Rheumatologist and diagnosed with Scleroderma. I was also monitored for lupus. I quit going after about 3 years because I felt like I had zero symptoms for Scleroderma. My ANA was abnormal..thats why I was referred to a specialist. Plus, my arms and hands would go numb. It was probably MS all along. Thyroid disease was diagnosed as well.
@A MyMSTeam Member you are not alone-Many of us were happy to get A Dx. I remember thinking 'Good, I'm not losing my mind. I'm NOT crazy!'
Initially, my doctor thought my numbness from the waist down was a bulging disc in my lower back. After an MRI of the area showed nothing of course, there was a lot of pondering. Doctor even suspected spinal cord compression and sent me to the ED. Waste of a day.
Finally, a neurologist decided to explore further up my back and my brain with a full MRI of both and what do you know, lesions galore. That result was a shock to me as for 12 months I was told it was most likely a bulging disc.
But anyway. Glad I know now :-)
