I have the same problem when I'm on my feet too long. It feels like a cramp in your toes at first, but then they seem to have a mind of their own and start curling inward. It's very painful and can stretch all the way up into the calf. Oddly enough, when I get off my feet and try to elevate my legs the "curling" and cramping gets worse, so I stand back up and try to keep my feet flat on the floor until the "curling" abates. I had a bad spell of that last night with both feet. Lasted about 30 minutes.
Many exercise "stretching" programs fail to address the feet and toes specifically. Make sure you are doing them too. πΎ

You can soak your feet (or your whole self! π) in Epsom Salts. You'll absorb magnesium right through your skin and it can focus on the muscles of your feet by soaking.
btw - do not do them if it causes more problems! I cannot curl my toes on purpose because it immediately causes spasms.
Wow... I had no idea so many other have the exact same issues as I do. Though I've has MS for nearly 15 years I'm new to this type of "community", so I haven't had much interaction with others who have MS. I'm on Baclofen among other drugs, but sometimes those spasms are stronger than any drug. I saw a few of you mention stretching- I have a core strengthening routine which involves a lot of stretching of my legs. I try to do it regularly, but sometimes it's tough to muster the energy to do 'exercises'.
When my toes curl my feet and calves spasm up and it hurts terribly! To release it I must try to stretch my foot by standing on my toes. You can try this as well as increasing your magnesium to see if that helps. If not and it's painful, talk to your neuro. You may need to use some baclofen (muscle relaxer).
My guess is that you need to do releases on your feet. I actually joined the MS Gym as a paid member a few months ago and the first thing I found doing the routines with Coach Trevor was that I had much more spasticity than I realized. Literally no idea I was such a hot mess. Your body is very clever at the compensation game. Anyway, now I have a morning routine where I work on releasing tension and spasticity (mostly in my feet and legs) and stretching. I also got a roller stick (which I used on my feet and legs), a foam roller (legs and back) and a massage wand (which I use pretty much everywhere). I totally get what a hassle this stuff is. Good luck. [My only affiliation with the MS Gym is that I am a member.]
