My experience was its better to get an attorney who specializes in helping people get disability. They get a "commission" ONCE and then the monthly payments are yours. This will also qualify you for Medicare but it takes two years to get there. What state are you in? Each state has their own Affordable Care Act program that should provide insurance. I agree there are more high deductible and poor coverage programs than there should be for folks who can't afford the premiums and deductibles.

You have to have doctors visits...medical records when applying for ssdi. They also will send you to a doctor if you don't have enough medical documentation. Even then they will send you to their ss doctor. You also don't qualify for Medicare for 2 years. During that time you can probably qualify for your state Medicaid insurance. You don't have to be on a disease modifying drug

Well. With my experience its good to go on disability then to get insurance with it. I got humana gold with medicare option. I DON'T PAY ANYTHING. Not for drs or medicine. Kinda nice since my infusion every 6 months is like 60k and all i do is go in for treatment then leave when its over. There are ways to get around this trust me. Im much too young for SSI since im under 65. So i get SSA. Depends on what you have given SSI in taxes will determine your payment every month. So yes there r ways to help with this crap. Lawyers? I try to avoid because well who needs another bill. It is possible to be approved with out but trust me, social security is a pain to call but as long as you dont let up on them you will get through to them. Call me the frugal type. Oh and PS Humana Gold with Medicare doesn't cost you anything every year. So id look into those. Hope that helps.

I'm not on disability, but I'm also not on any DMT. So far I've not been able to take any of them. I talked to my Dr about being self pay and not having insurance. My Dr worked with me on how much the office charges me for each visit, and I go about every 3 months. You should talk to your Dr about how much you can pay, and have your Dr help you to get on disability.
