Speech Problems And Jaw Pain?

A MyMSTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve been having more issues speaking lately. It’s like my tongue doesn’t want to cooperate and I end up sounding muffled or drunk. I’ve found myself trying to annunciate harder, which then causes my jaw to hurt. Anyone else have this problem or know how I relieve the jaw pain? Ibuprofen doesn’t seem to cut it.

Yes I do. --- People ask me what it feels like to have MS. I tell them; it feels like your drunk....without the pleasure of being drunk!

The pain could be the beginning of Trigeminal Neuralgia. Check with your dentist to be sure there aren't any dental issues including grinding. If not, talk to your neuro about TN. You'll want to have prescription meds on hand if it goes full-blown. The pain is outrageous!

I take 600 mg. gabapentin 3x/day with 100 mg. capsule available for breakthrough pain. Gabapentin works for me but there are other meds available. Gaba is good because you don't have to monitor liver enzymes with it.

I do not have jaw issues..but I am a night teeth grinder, so sometimes it hurts due to that. I sometimes wear a night guard. I too, slur when I talk alot at work for example..on phones. I feel like I sound wasted/drunk but no one has said anything to me..yet!
