Members shared a wide range of personal experiences in response to the question about whether diarrhea is a symptom of MS, with the community agreeing that bowel problems of all kinds can be linked to MS disrupting nerve signals to muscles. Several members described living with IBS, constipation, diarrhea, or unpredictable bowel changes, and shared helpful strategies like taking magnesium supplements, Loperamide, Linzess, or fiber products like Fybrogel. Many also recommended seeing a gastroenterologist to rule out conditions like Crohn's disease or colitis, and noted that physical therapy and diet changes have also brought some relief.

For me it was constipation, they say everybody goes through different things. But I'm cool now that's when I tried to stop having so much coffee. Now Just 1 16 oz before I kept a 32 ounce with me all day.

@A MyMSTeam Member Have you seen a Gastroenterologist? They can run tests to see if you might actually have an Irritable Bowel Disease instead, like Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. I used to have bowel problems, first Constipation then Diarrhea before we finally figured out I had Crohn’s with UC instead of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Since we figured it out I’m on medication that has taken care of the problem; well, that and diet and exercise.

To determine I had both I swallowed a miniature camera the size of a vitamin that traveled through my small intestines taking pictures along the way and it showed inflammation. I honestly thought a colonoscopy went all the way to where stomach meets intestines, but nope, they only look at large intestines; which also showed inflammation especially where large and small intestines meet and my diagnosis of Crohn’s with UC was made.

It’s why I get pain in lower right side around where the appendix is. I only have occasional problems now because I eat a trigger food that causes gas. Do you by chance also have Gastroparesis or slow emptying stomach? I used to have that as well but it seems to have gone away all on its own. There’s a test where they can track how quickly food leaves stomach; before there was 40% food remaining after four hours so my stomach never growled. Now I’m at 3% remaining and my stomach growls again when I’m hungry.

This has also helped lessen my GERD problems but still have because of Crohn’s. I did so many different tests to figure out I had GERD. When I said I’ve had a lot of different tests for this and that, I wasn’t kidding. I’m going to attach links to information on conditions mentioned above.

I have IBS which has been linked to MS. I get good days bad, I take Fybrogel once a day, while it is meant for constipation it helps make the stools more formed. It really helps me. Take care sweetie. God bless you. Stay safe and well. XXX 😚🤗

Most everything about our body has nerves communicating with muscles and MS has away to disrupt that communication. My muscles at my bowels and my bladder have been disrupted from the beginning. However things have improved over the years.
