I have had the MS hug I think five or six times in four days now, at least once daily with an extra couple during the nights of those days as well. I usually have it once every few months, or maybe once for a couple days in a row then not again for a few months but not for very long on those days. This time, it has been for around a half an hour to an hour each time, with it spreading from where it usually is and being very intense. Before it starts, I get chest tightness and pain, stomach pain… read more

@A MyMSTeam Member With everything going on right now I’m sure there are a lot of anxious people worrying about this or that. I take Escitalopram for my MS-Anxiety and it helps immensely, my psychiatrist prescribed the medication for me. I even had her increase the dose when all of this started and I’m glad I did.
It’s at least something to consider. Same medication is used for depression too. But I think anxiety is ruling right now. I hope you find something that can help calm you so you can face life’s challenges right now.
It's always good to talk with your DR. That said, I have had very similar symptoms happen like you mentioned when I'm extra stressed, not taking care of myself enough, and needing to slow down. Over the years I've gotten better to listening sooner, which has really helped. Hope you find a solution soon!! XX
@A MyMSTeam Member Remember the rule for difference between a real relapse and a pseudo one is time. The symptom needs to be continuous for over 24 hours. You can always call your neurologist to get advice on what to do. When were your last MRIs? I get them done annually to make sure everything is stable.
You mentioned this has been happening to you in the past on multiple occasions, so it’s not anything new. Have the hugs become more intense recently? To give yourself piece of mind, call your neurologist or is your next scheduled appointment to see them soon? Make sure to have a good conversation about what’s going on. Are you under a lot more stress with dealing with the pandemic? Stress can have a way to bring on MS pseudo relapse symptoms as well as a real relapse.
What else are you dealing with during this stressful time? I mentioned it before, it never hurts to give your neurologist office a call. There are medications out there for MS-Anxiety, I take Escitalopram for mine. Matter of fact we increased the dose right before all this happened to help me stay calm.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, my Psychiatrist is very understanding and listens to what I have to say.
Do yourself a favour and invest in a Homedics back stretching yoga mat.
You need to sort out all the small muscles around your spine and ribs, the mat virtually does it for you.
@A MyMSTeam Member the cycle of feeling stressed, starting to feel stuff going on because of stress, getting more stressed because of symptoms, getting worse because of more stress from symptoms, it sucks. It's like how depression feels like a cycle that perpetuates itself, not fun at all.
