Financial stability while waiting g for SSDI

I am 55 years old. I am divorced, with a teenager that I am supporting without the benefit of child support. I had continued to work even after I was diagnosed, because I had very little symptoms, and also out of necessity. I have been living with MS for 22 years. It has just now gotten to the point I cannot work and have applied for SSDI. For all those who have waited a long time for benefits, what did you do financially to maintain your home?

I'm so sorry - it's such a long tedious process. Process took me 32 months....just recently approved - and I did have to get a lawyer. If you end up wanting one to help, mine was awesome and I'm always happy to share his contact info. During the long wait I went pretty deep into debt, both credit cards and with help from my partner. It has been a huge relief to finally receive backpay to get back out of debt. Not sure of other assistance programs beyond FMLA, but you could always call the MS Navigators to ask them. They usually at least have a recommendation whenever I call to inquire about something: (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) Hope you can find some help! XX
