Good morning! Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dads out there!

Just looking for a little insight about this rude disease we all share. For the most part I am lucky and get around just fine. When I do start to feel "jelly legs" creeping in (after cleaning my house, standing - walking back and forth to the fridge/counter/stove while cooking a big dinner, walking my dog, pool walking, etc) should I sit and rest until it passes or should I try to push through? I know I can't cause the… read more

Members with MS rallied around the question of whether to push through or rest when 'jelly legs' strikes during daily activities like cooking, walking, or cleaning. The overwhelming advice was to rest, with many sharing that brief breaks of even 5 minutes helped them do more overall, while pushing through often led to longer shutdowns. A recurring theme was learning to pace yourself, accept a new normal, and listen to your body as an act of self-care rather than defeat.

Hey @A MyMSTeam Member, first off kudos to you!! You've found that after you've increased your body temp, no matter how, your legs make you feel slightly unstable. Extra props to you for even finding a potential "fix" for the situation. It has been my experience that those of us who have been fortunate enough to receive a MS diagnosis may do better by resting for hopefully brief periods before continuing with life. I know this method has worked wonders for me. I've found it's better to sit briefly instead of trying to push through and wind up needing to shut down for longer. I morphed to making myself "rest" for like 5 minutes (harder for me than I'd like to admit) at predetermined intervals during my day. Resting even for 5 minutes several times a day at first made me feel silly but I found I could do more longer with these brief rests and they also helped me avoid times when I knew I better shut down. I even heard from medical professionals of this practice. Remember, you're OK to trust your first response as it will often do the best for you.

I sit and rest for a bit between activities or else I’m a complete mess. Jelly legs. I like that term. It’s exactly what i get every time, every day. Starts in the lower back and then hits my legs.

Sit and rest til it passes. Read your body, listen...it gives you these messages to alert you to self-preservation.

Marion54 I do those things because I want to ❤️ I love being active and doing everything I've always done for my family! Like I said, I hate that I have to do things slower or a little different - it is what it is at this point! Just glad I'm still able to do what I want to do!
