I’m so nervous about getting vaccinated because I am someone who tends to have bad reactions to my everything. That being said, I’m terrified of getting Covid-19. It’s difficult for me to get out & do things a lot so I’m not exposed to a lot of people myself, but my 18 y/o daughter works 2 jobs where she exposed to countless people on a daily basis so I worry about her bringing it home to me. Anyways, I’m just curious how others with ms are handling the vaccine. Thx in advance for ur answers… read more

I had no problem, beyond a sore arm, with either doses of Pfizer, and will def be getting a booster in a month or two

Hi Brooke! I have RRMS but wanted to reply to your question because like you, I am tremendously sensitive to medications. I've had strong negative reactions to flu shots and other vaccines in the past - and DMTs, so I was nervous too. I got Moderna shots in March and April. Both times: very sore arm for about 48 hours. About 24 hours in with shot #2 I had a brief bout of significant fatigue - I probably wouldn't have noticed since that can happen just with MS at times, but my husband who does not have MS noticed the same exact thing happened to him at exactly the same time. I talked with my neurologist last week - he definitely recommends me getting a 3rd shot at some point. He said it would be safe to do at any time, but I don't have to rush since I'm on Tecfidera (and not one of the other DMTs that depletes our immune system in a different way), although he said end of Sept it will likely be an option for everyone so it may become more difficult to find vaccine availability and an open appointment. I have a two MS friends who are waiting too, but everyone else in my MS network got theirs and only two had some annoying symptoms flare, but I know of nothing major. It's a tough personal choice, but as someone who has lost a number of people I love to Covid, it was a risk I knew I needed to take for myself. And I will definitely be getting #3 at some point soon. All the best to you whatever you decide is right for you! 🧡

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply to my question. You’ve all been very helpful! I’m happy to report that I have had my first vaccine & will be going for my 2nd one soon. I felt more tired than even my normal & my daily flu- like symptoms were intensified a bit that night and the next day. But thank God nothing serious! I’m really looking forward to being fully vaccinated! Thx again for all ur replies! 💞

I got the Pfizer shot as soon as I was able to. I was very tired after both shots but otherwise SO HAPPY to be safer! Please get the vaccine.
