I've been on SSDI twice, once in the 1980s after my first butt-kicking MS attack (late 20s), and then again in the 2000s (age late 40s/50s?). *Both* times they were denied the first round and I had to appeal.

In the 1980s one SS clerk told me that due to Reagan running up *massive* budget deficits he made a "cost savings" change to automatically deny anyone applying to SSDI for all but the most obvious cases. Reagan's cost-savings change still is in effect.

The one thing I'd caution about stopping work is that your "world" -- everything from circle of friends to the number of steps you take -- has a tendency to shrink. Guard against that and make a concerted effort to do more and push the envelope.

I seem to be the outlier. I was accepted on my first try, as was my husband. I filled out all the paperwork They expect you to exaggerate so I did. When the examiner saw I have. MS, I was was approved

It took me about a year with a lawyer. I was first denied, second time with the lawyer. I had to go to the SSI doctor's. Then I needed my doctor's & my neurologist letters stating everything about my MS and everything that is included that's going on with my body from MS.
So best thing to do is get a Lawyer.

You need to contact your FMLA representative and notify them of your diagnosis if you haven't already. That'll protect your job.
