Hi everyone! I’m new here. My doctor is in the process of checking to see if I have MS because I have experienced several of the symptoms and have had issues off and on for +- 10 years. The MRI didn’t show any lesions. Has anyone ever actually been diagnosed without having lesions?
Thanks for the info!

First, I'm not an MD. I'm just another doofus with MS. MS literally means multiple sclerosis, with sclerosis being scarring or literal brain damage.

What I know about MRIs is that there are many different kinds. MS MRIs have to have a powerful machine and take certain "cuts" (thickness) in the MRI. Thus, the MRIs for MS cannot be done on "any" MRI machine and the doctor reading the MRI should have some experience with MS.

So I'd start there. Does your neurologist have MS experience and other MS patients? If not, I'd get another neurologist (seriously).

Another point to consider.

There are several other illnesses/conditions that can mimic some MS symptoms. Right now you should be hoping you have one of those! (They're curable where MS is not!)

That's one of the things that makes an MS diagnosis so difficult and time-consuming -- making sure you definitely have MS. The diagnosis is so important because with an MS diagnosis will come an immediate, strong recommendation to go on an MS Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT) drug. DMTs are typically a strong immuno-suppressants, many with a lot of side effects, some with literally lethal side effects.

Those are the kind of diagnoses that no doctor wants to screw up -- and that should only be made by an experienced neurologist.

Thank you so much for your response! I appreciate your input. I’m hoping and praying it’s not MS. I’ve been to so many doctors this past year and it has been flat out exhausting. I’ve been to my regular doctor, a GI dr, my Gyno, eye doctor… because I’ve had so many different and unusual symptoms. I’ve had so much blood work done, including Lyme disease, and still nothing. Then I think maybe it is all just anxiety and I’m going crazy. Lol
It’s to the point where I just wish they’d find a tumor or something!! I know that probably sounds crazy but at least I’d finally know, if that makes any sense.
