It's typically paid for by your social security funds if you have them. I know they can take any assets that you have to pay for the nursing home.
Everyone is totally correct here about nursing homes. It's a shame they treat people like that. I had a friend who needed to go into a home, but he decided to transfer his home to his daughter way before they took it away from him. But the nursing home took everything else away from him. I hope I never have to live in one. I'll rent someone's garage before I ever go in one.
That is awful. A home is such a big part of your life!

If you don’t have assets, then, the state will pay but you pretty much be stripped of everything. It happened to my mom. It’s very sad, the nursing home gave her $35 monthly but I purchased things for her in order for her to have some money for emergencies. I miss her so much but I know she is in a better place now.
